ELEPHANT REHOMED TO SANCTUARY FROM PUERTO RICO ZOO

After living alone for decades at the zoo in Puerto Rico, Mundi the elephant is now living among other elephants at a refuge in Georgia.

Mundi was among hundreds of animals who were removed from the Dr. Juan A. Rivero Zoo, after the U.S. Department of Justice oversaw the evacuation of every single animal, following years of complaints pertaining to the welfare and treatment of the animals in the zoo.

The process began in the spring of 2023 and took five months to remove and rehome all of the animals.

We are glad to hear that the refuge in Georgia reports Mundi is already looking 'calmer and healthier'. We hope Mundi thrives in this new environment.
