New Partnership with Global Sanctuary for Elephants

Pangea Partners with Global Sanctuary for Elephants

We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with Global Sanctuary for Elephants (GSE).

GSE was co-founded by Scott and Kat Blais, who have dedicated their lives to transforming the lives of captive elephants in their care, and inspiring others to give elephants a life of freedom and autonomy.  Before launching GSE, Scott co-founded The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, one of the first facilities of its kind in the United States, and brings decades of expertise in elephant care and sanctuary design.  Kat similarly has decades of experience in elephant care and is a qualified veterinary nurse, and together they make a truly exceptional team.

In 2016, they established South America’s first elephant sanctuary in Brazil.  Earlier this year, we had the privilege of visiting their sanctuary to see their work firsthand. The sanctuary is a remarkable 2,800-acre refuge where elephants rescued from zoos and circuses in South America are given the change to live as elephants should—roaming freely, foraging, and forming bonds in expansive natural habitat.

Currently, GSE is home to five Asian female elephants, Maia, Rana, Mara, Bambi, and Guillermina, each with a unique rehabilitation story that highlights the sanctuary’s compassionate approach to elephant care. They have also recently secured permits to welcome two additional elephants from Argentina, Kenya and Pupy.

Despite their immense responsibilities, Scott and Kat have generously pledged their support to Pangea’s mission. They are advising on the design of our barn and enclosures, sharing their invaluable expertise on elephant care and management, and helping us lay a strong foundation for our sanctuary. With our closely aligned values and ethics, this partnership represents an extraordinary opportunity for Pangea to learn from their successes and build on their inspiring example.
