We are delighted to announce that acclaimed Portuguese artist, Joana Vasconcelos, has been appointed as Ambassador and Honorary Matriarch for Pangea.
Joana is internationally renowned for her enormous hand-crafted sculptures and has collaborated with the likes of Dior and Roche Bobois. Her foundation supports social and cultural initiatives in Portugal and she is passionate about protecting the environment.
She said: “It is a tremendous privilege to join Pangea in this ambassadorial role. The natural world is a source of inspiration for artists like myself and we have a duty to do all we can to promote a peaceful coexistence with nature, especially considering the challenges of our time. Elephants are one of the most majestic and sentient animals on earth and they deserve our respect. It is wonderful that Pangea has chosen Portugal to establish their groundbreaking initiative.”
As her first engagement, Joana is representing Pangea in the Great Elephant Migration, in which 100 life-size elephant sculptures will tour US cities to share their coexistence stories. Each elephant is paired with a conservation NGO and an influential Matriarch. The global fundraiser has been organised by the Elephant Family to support charities like Pangea.
