It was announced on 17th April that the American Hadi Shrine circus has officially stopped featuring elephants in their performances.
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) shared this news following their continued protests and campaigns directed at Hadi Shrine, including the more than 250,000 signatures from supporters on the issue and the backing out of sponsors.
A Hadi Shrine spokesperson simply stated ‘it’s just time’ to ‘retire elephants’ from its circus shows.
You can read the full PETA release and an article in the Evansville Courier & Press.
We’re pleased that yet another circus has ended the use of elephants and hope to see more circuses follow this example.
