Another first for rewilding Portugal

Greater Côa Valley

Rewilding Portugal are working to restore habitats in the Greater Côa Valley. Soil quality can be poor and has been further degraded in many areas by sheep and cattle grazing. They are pioneering some progressive introductions of larger herbivores, whose restorative grazing will shape ecosystems, promote biodiversity, and reduce wildfire risk. They introduced Sorraia horses last year, and you can read the latest news on their release of Tauros here.

They have kindly offered guidance on the monitoring of our own biodiversity restoration efforts and we will be following their work closely.
