Every Contribution Helps

As word has spread about the sanctuary, we’ve been overwhelmed by the goodwill coming our way. Like most charities, we rely on donations to do what we do, and the generosity people have shown – often complete strangers who simply care about elephants – has been humbling. 

We are so grateful for is that people give what they can, in whatever way they can. The most straightforward way to support us is to donate online here, or get in touch if you would like to sponsor a specific project, or join our Founders Circle. You can also throw a fundraiser, gift a service, or help connect us to new donors. Every act of generosity helps us build a home for Europe’s elephants in need. If you’re looking for inspiration, here are some highlights from our community.

Start a Fundraiser

Many supporters create their own campaigns around personal challenges, celebrations, or community events. 

Ed Reyner ran the Newcastle Gateshead Marathon and raised more than £1,000 for Pangea through a JustGiving campaign. It was his first marathon and followed four months of training. By sharing his fundraiser with family, friends, and through social media, he doubled his original £500 target! 

Supporters have also used birthdays and other personal milestones as an opportunity to raise funds for the sanctuary. Carol Dawes celebrated her 80th birthday with a fundraiser that raised €300, while Kim Denning hosted a Wild West themed 70th birthday party and raised €420 for Pangea. 

Inspire your school or community group

Support for Pangea also comes from schools, local groups, and community organisations. 

Through partnerships with local schools, students have taken part in projects focused on elephants, conservation, and the sanctuary’s work. After researching Pangea, the students developed presentations and displays that have been highlighted throughout the Alentejo region, helping introduce the sanctuary to members of the wider community. These initiatives build lasting connections between the sanctuary and the communities around it.

Help with pro-bono services

Our small, dedicated team wears many hats, but there are times we need specialist support – legal, finance, IT, web development – that we can’t cover ourselves.  This is where the generosity of companies and individuals makes a real difference: pro bono help in these areas means we can put money towards the elephants instead. 

PLMJ have provided pro-bono legal support to Pangea for over 4 years now, helping us navigate the land acquisition and licencing, and all sorts of other legal compliance issues. Wild Amer provided pro bono technical support to help establish Pangea’s donation systems, and Host Logic has supported Pangea’s IT and cyber security for several years. 

We’re also incredibly grateful for the academics, experts and advisors who have given their time to advise us on all things on the elephnats, from land management through to facilities design.

Give materials in-kind

Donations of materials, equipment, or resources rather than financial support have made a big difference too.  

Secil Portugal donated 150 cubic metres of concrete that was used in the construction of essential infrastructure.  Sarens Belgium gave a significant discount on their services when we needed to hire a crane to deliver Kariba’s crate, Cavan are donating precast concrete poles so we can mount our CCTV, and the DST Group have pledged to donate some steel.   

Rainbow Portugal, one of our corporate sponsors, launched a campaign to donate an electric utility vehicle by raising money through product demonstration bookings. 

Spread the Word

As a relatively new charity, some of our biggest steps forward have come simply because people talked about us. Our core supporters have been brilliant champions, and a number of our most significant donations have come through personal introductions where someone has mentioned our work to the right person at the right moment. 

Sharing our story on social media, telling friends about the sanctuary, or simply championing our cause in conversation can also have a real impact. You never know who you’re going to reach, and sometimes a single share is all it takes to bring a new supporter, partner, or friend into the fold. 

Leave a Legacy

Some supporters choose to make a lasting contribution by including Pangea in their will or estate planning. These are known as legacy gifts, and they are simply donations that are arranged during a person’s lifetime but given after they pass away. 

Legacy gifts can provide long-term support for the sanctuary and help ensure the continued care of elephants for years to come. For many people, this is a meaningful way to carry their commitment to wildlife and animal welfare into the future.
