The Duchess is well known for her achievements in cultural heritage and the arts and also has a passion for elephants and the wider natural world. Évora, the closest city to Pangea, has been her family’s ancestral home for over 600 years.

Joana is a Portuguese artist internationally renowned for her enormous hand-crafted sculptures and has collaborated with the likes of Dior and Roche Bobois. Her foundation supports social and cultural initiatives in Portugal and she is passionate about protecting the environment.

“The natural world is a source of inspiration for artists like myself and we have a duty to do all we can to promote a peaceful coexistence with nature. It is wonderful that Pangea has chosen Portugal to establish their progressive initiative.”

Peter Egan

Peter Egan is a distinguished British actor with a rich career spanning stage, screen, and animal welfare activism. Amongst many awards for his acting, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University of Winchester in 2017 for his dedicated services to social justice and animal welfare and in 2026 the Jane Goodall Hope Award for his outstanding contribution to wildlife and animal welfare.

“Throughout my life, I’ve been fortunate to have a career that has brought immense joy, but protecting animals has become one of my life’s greatest purposes. Joining Pangea as an Ambassador is a privilege, and I’m proud to support a project that offers elephants a future built on compassion, respect, and genuine care.”
